Events Industry Forum Announcement

The Event Industry Forum (EIF) and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) have agreed the guidance necessary to restart parts of the UK’s outdoor events industry.

A result of the continued collaboration between both parties, the new guidance lays out how those working within the £30.4bn outdoors events sector can kick start their business in line with the latest government regulations. 

The guidance specifically lists the various organised outdoor events that can now go ahead – provided they’re done safely in accordance with Covid-secure measures. They include air shows, agricultural shows, flower shows and outdoor theatres. Announcing the change, Oliver Dowden, the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary declared, “From the 11th July, our theatres, operas, dance and music shows can start putting on outdoor performances to socially distanced audiences.”

However, there will be various measures in place to ensure conditions are safe for the return of the general public. Venue capacity “will be reduced, and organisations encouraged to move to electronic ticketing, to help test and trace”. 

The guidance has been welcomed as positive news for the outdoor event industry.

“Our industry has been decimated by Covid-19 with most of the outdoor events planned for this summer and the autumn already cancelled” said Jim Winship, Secretary of the Events Industry Forum. “Nevertheless, publication of this guidance gives the green light which we hope will enable some smaller events to take place.”.

“We hope this will be just the first step on the road to recovery which will allow the outdoor event industry to return at full blast in 2021”.
